  Outdoor Asemblies in Brutal Heat..Why?

  i don't know whether anyone's raised this topic before, but i don't understand why the society persists in scheduling these summer assemblies out of doors, often in some of the most unhospitable weather and locations known to man.. over the years, i've heard countless stories about people fainting, and even dying in the sweltering heat, and this includes infants who dehydrate.

  it all seems so pointless when the wts now owns and operates so many air concitioned buildings of its own, and and where suitable indoors sites are readily available for rent.. philadelphia is one case in point: why insist on using the vet stadium when there is a plethora of indoor facility options all over the northeast?

  are they so callous and indifferent to the friends' well-being?

  this issue, of course, has been raised before.

  of course there's no one simple reason.

  arrogance, i'm sure plays a role -- the ones that feel the wts counsel to avoid dialogue with opposers is meant for the ``weaker ones'' and cannot possibly apply to someone as well-grounded and mature as they.. it may be a tacit acknowledgement that the society's arguments against debate are specious.

  Adam Bauerlein: anyone remember him?

  one of the most remarkable acquaintances i made during of my four-year stint at bethel was that of adam bauerlein.

  by the time i got there, he was well into his ninth decade, and quite senile.

  his story was fascinating... it seems that apart from katherine bogard and grace dececca, he had the most seniority of the bethel family.

  Suggestions, please re ``placing'' free COCs

  a friend and i have come across a quantity of crisis of conscience in like-new condition, both english and italian editions.

  we're in a quandary as to how to make best use of them.

  we were thinking of donating them to the libraries or to perhaps cut a deal wth a local christian book store.

  does anyone out there have a clue to why all of brooklyn's latest books are paperbacks?

  it can't be that aggradizement, property acquisition and construction are superceding book publishing, can it?

  whatever happened to the oft-quoted scripture about offering the almighty ``lame sacrifices'' on the altar?

  first of all, my apologies... i goofed in my first attempt to comment on this.. the recent thread by bibleexaminer prompted me to comment on how the wts sometimes seeks to disseminate something ``through the back door,'' i.e.

  verbally via its circuit or disttict overseers rather than face the embarassment or other negative consequences of mitigating or altering an official position in print.

  usually, step one in this process is to cease any reference to the obsolescent teaching, counting the rank and file's short memory span.

  is there any word more overused by jws than ``fine?

  '' has anyone ever had the temerity to suggest that a talk or demo was ``awful,'' ``boring,'' or ``pathetic?

  one thought for long-time dubs..... the wts's interminable bragging about their ``spiritual paradise'' and ``nation of ministers'' aside, there are signs that the leadership is hip to the flagging commitment on the part of the rank and file.

  notice how the summer district conventions have shrunk over the years.

  what would the attendance figures would look like if the gb tried to revive the old practice of eight-day assemblies, with sessions lasting until 9:00 p.m. every day?

  or more specifically, in france?

  jws demonstrating and handing out leaflets of protest to the public (see the 1 sept. 2001 wt)?

  i recall a similar instance here in nyc when the rank and file was called upon to march in protest against a decision of local government against a building expansion project in brooklyn heights?
